Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) Taiwanese marksmen bagged two bronze medals at the recently concluded World University Sport Shooting Championships held in Kazan, Russia, the Chinese Taipei University Sport Federation said Tuesday.
Duwei Yi-tzu won bronze in the women's individual 10 meter air pistol, while Duwei, along with her two teammates Yu Hui-yi and Wu Chia-ying, won a bronze in the women's team 10 meter air pistol, the federation said.
The Taiwanese team was mainly composed of shooters from Taipei Physical Education College and National Taiwan Sport University.
Team coach Chen Chiu-yen said that besides strength, strong mental fortitude determines whether shooters can compete at such high levels.
Most of the time, younger athletes have difficulty adjusting, which can lead to failure, Chen added.
The Sept. 4-9 championship, now in its fourth year, includes 17 individual and 17 team events, with about 500 athletes from around the world competing.
According to the championship's rules, athletes aged between 18 and 27 are eligible to compete and each country can enter a maximum of 42 people.
