Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) A Taiwanese team took the gold medal in the women's 500 kilogram event at the Tug of War International Federation's World Outdoor Championships on Friday in Appenzell, Switzerland.
Taiwan's team, comprised of students from Taipei Jingmei Girls High School, won the gold medal after competing against eight other teams, including five from the host country and one each from Belgium, Germany and Spain.
Taiwan beat all other teams 2-0 except for a tie with a Swiss team 1-1.
Lin Li-hua, principal of the Jingmei school, said that rival teams, which were comprised of adults, were more competitive due to their age, physical build and competition experience.
However, due to superior endurance and willpower, as well as a good strategy, the school won the category, Lin said.
Taiwan's team was eliminated from the mixed 600 kg category at the championships, which started Thursday and run until Sunday.
