Taipei, Aug. 31 (CNA) Visiting NBA star Jeremy Lin managed to spend time having fun with local children Friday but found it a little bit difficult to cope with some of the questions they came up with.
Lin, who is on a nine-day visit to Taiwan, made a private visit to an elementary school and a church in Hualien County Friday after a four-day basketball summer camp in Taipei, the organizers said.
"Do you have a girlfriend?" a girl asked. Instead of answering the question directly, Lin, a 24-year-old point guard, replied in Mandarin: "You are too young for a relationship," which drew laughter from the crowd.
After that tester, the Harvard graduate seemed to handle the other questions in stride. Answering questions ranging from whether he has diarrhea to if playing basketball can make one tall, he managed to satisfy the curiosity of some 50 children.
Earlier in the day, Lin went to Shoufeng Elementary School and played Sharks and Seaweed with some 200 children, during which he was caught by the shark and frozen as the seaweed.
The NBA star is scheduled to attend a sponsor's event Saturday and an evangelical gathering hosted by a local television station the following day. He will depart for the United States Sept. 3.
Lin, whose meteoric rise early this year with the New York Knicks attracted widespread attention, signed a three-year, US$25.1 million contract with the Houston Rockets last month after the Knicks failed to match the offer.
