Los Angeles, July 9 (CNA) The Baltimore Oriole's Wei-Yin Chen has shed his baseball uniform to pose in fashionwear for the cover ofthe August issue of the Taiwanese edition of Esquire Magazine.
Chen said it was a new experience for him and that it felt very different from his normal job of playing baseball. He also said it was a lot less stressful than playing pro baseball, as all he hadto do was follow the directions of the photographer.
The magazine's editor-in-chief, Steve Chen, flew from Taipei to LosAngeles to personally arrange the shoot, which portrayed another sideto Chen's normally "fierce" image on the ballpark, showing him as both fashionable and stylish, at times severe and other times like a boy.
Wei-Yin Chen said his everyday wear is T-shirt and jeans and that hedoesn't use styling gel for his hair.
He also said he has noticed a vast difference between the dress senses of his teammates when playing in Japan and those from the Americas, noting that his former Japanese teammates like wearing Japanese clothing brands, while his U.S. teammates, especially those from Central and South America, particularly like wearing leather.
Chen has had a spectacular first half of this season, despite this being his first year playing in U.S., with a record of 7-5 and an ERA of 3.93.
