Taiwan LPGA tournament to open in October

Taipei, June 28 (CNA) The 2012 Sunrise LPGA tournament will open at the Sunrise Golf Course in Taoyuan County's Yang Ming on Oct. 25, said the president of the Sunrise Group on Thursday.

The first LPGA tournament to be held in Taiwan was hosted at the golf course in 2011 and it attracted 67,000 visitors, Hsu Tien-ya said, adding he hopes this year's tournament will attract more than 100,000 visitors.

The four-day tournament will have a US$2 million prize purse thisyear, and 78 players from around the world are expected to competein the event, Hsu said.

Hsu said it is expected seven out of the world's top 10 female golfers will attend the tournament this year, with world No. 1 Yani Tseng returning to defend her title.

Last year, Tseng won the tournament with 6 under-66 and earnedthe prize purse of US$300,000, of which she donated US$100,000 tothe Taiwan Golf Association to support the development of junior golf.

Ticket prices for the first two days of the tournament will cost NT$1,000 (US$33.33), NT$1,500 for the third round of the tournament and NT$2,000 on the last day of the contest.

A special four-day pass will cost NT$4,550, organizers said.
