Yani Tseng struggles up to 64th at Wegmans LPGA Championship

Taipei, June 9 (CNA) Yani Tseng continued her struggle on Locust Hill in New York Friday, finishing the second round of the Wegmans LPGA Championship, which she dominated one year ago, at a 3-over-par 75 to tie for 64th with a total 7-over 151 in the two rounds.

The world's top-ranked women's golfer from Taiwan fired three birdies and six bogeys, with an on-fairway rate of 35.7 percent.

"I did my best," Tseng said in an ESPN report. "I hung in there."

Tseng was 10 shots off the lead of Pak Se Ri from South Korea, who topped the field at 3-under 141 over the two days. Pak shot a 1-under 71 Friday to take a one-shot lead.

Playing in a threesome with Paula Creamer and Stacy Lewis, Tseng got her first birdie on the first hole and seemed to have rallied herself to push on from the 80th place where she finished on the first round with a 4-over-par 76.

The 23-year-old maintained her sharpness over the first nine holes, bagging a total of three birdies. "I played so good on the front nine," Tseng said in the ESPN interview.

The defending champion, however, began to tumble on the back nine. Struggling to land tee shots on the fairway, Tseng ended up with five bogeys.

"I was shocked," Lewis said. "It's probably the worst I've seen Yani play over two days straight. Usually, if she has a bad day, she bounces back the next day. It wasn't the usual Yani."

"It was a really tough day out there," Tseng said. "I didn't play well on the back nine, but I hung in there and didn't give up. It was very disappointing, but hopefully I'll learn something from these two days."

Last year, Tseng earned the championship with 19-under.

With a score of 3-over on Friday, Tseng escaped from elimination.

She still has the chance to defend her title, but the first thing she has to do is shake off her present below-standard form.

After Friday's round, Tseng said she was very upset and hoped that in the final two days she could play golf like she used to in the past.
