Retired NBA players to visit Taiwan

Taipei, May 18 (CNA) A group of some of the NBA top players over the past two decades will be coming to Taiwan to play a local all-star team in an exhibition game, it was announced Friday.

The 2012 Senao International All Star Alumni Asia Tour- Kaohsiung will be held at Kaohsiung Arena on July 21.

The Professional Basketball Alumni-Taiwan, which is hosting the exhibition game, said the lineup of American players will include Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Mitch Richmond and Horace Grant.

Penny Hardaway was also expected to be part of the team but he strained his back in practice and will be replaced by Jason Williams.

Taiwan's all-star team will be coached by Hsu Chin-tse, coach of the Super Basketball League (SBL) champion Pure Youth Construction.

One of players on the roster of Taiwan's All-Star team, Tien Lei of the SBL's Dacin Tigers, said Pippen has been his idol since childhood, and "I never dreamed that I could play him."

Su Yi-chieh, who plays for Taiwan Mobile in the SBL, said, "I used to be a big fan of Williams. It will be like a dream to play against him."

Tickets for the exhibition game will go on sale May 20, with prices ranging from NT$500 to NT$4,500. Formosa TV will broadcast the game live.
