Taipei, May 16 (CNA) Taiwanese pitcher Wei-yin Chen of the Baltimore Orioles extended his record to 4-0 Tuesday and his continual strong performances helped boost sports lottery sales in his home country, the issuing company said Wednesday.

Taiwan Sports Lottery said that for the recent three games in which Chen started, sales of all related bets reached an average of NT$10 million (US$338,983) per game, compared with average sales of NT$7.27 million per Major League Baseball game this season.

The company said that according to all bets related to Chen's past three games, over 60 percent of gamblers bet that Chen would lead the Orioles to victory.

Meanwhile, although New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, the first player of Taiwanese descent in the National Basketball Association (NBA), did not participate in the NBA playoff, "Linsanity" clearly helped generate more attention in basketball in Taiwan, the company noted.

Sales of bets on the first round of the playoffs reached over NT$9 million per game, it added.
