Yani Tseng wins Taifong Ladies Open Golf

Taipei, Jan. 16 (CNA) Taiwan golfer Yani Tseng shot afour-under-par 68 for a three-day total of 218 to win thechampionship of the 2011 Taifong Ladies Open and NT$2 million in cashprize Sunday.

The second place went to South Korea's Nam Min-ji, who wasleading up to the ninth hole but ended the day with a total of 221.She won NT$700,000.

Tseng, who was selected the 2010 Female Player of the Year (POY)by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA) , said she waspleased to win her first championship for the year.

With her mother acting as caddy, Tseng carded bogeys on the 15thand 16th holes but made it up with a beautiful eagle on the 17th.

When it became certain of the win on the 18th hole, she raisedher arms and hugged her mom in celebration.

"Mom and I had an agreement before the game: don't give me anyadvice; just hand me the club and wipe the ball for me. It turned outour pact worked well and we had good interaction, which helped in mywinning the game," said the 21-year-old golfer.

She performed well last year, winning three LPGA titles,including two majors -- the Kraft Nabisco Championship and Women'sBritish Open -- and was the winner of the LPGA Player of the Year2010.
