Hosting of Asian Games estimated to cost NT$19 billion

Taipei, March 24 (CNA) Taipei City will allocate NT$19 billiondollars to host the 2019 Asian Games if it wins the bid, the directorof the Taipei Sports Office said Monday.

Noting that most of the sports stadiums in Taipei City meetinternational standards, Sun Chin-chuan said the Guandu Sports Parkis likely to be chosen as the main venue for the Asian Games, ifTaipei wins the hosting rights. It would cost NT$15 billion torenovate and construct pavilions, and another NT$4 billion to planthe program, he estimated.

Taipei City's experience in hosting the 21st Summer Deaflympics2009 should give it an advantage in the bid to host the Asian Games,he added.

So far, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka,Hong Kong, and Dubai have all expressed their intention to bid forthe games.

The Olympic Council of Asia is scheduled to vote in April 2011 onwhich country will be awarded the right to host the 2019 Asian Games.
