Taipei, Feb. 20 (CNA) Daily temperatures in northern Taiwan will plunge to 12 degrees Celsius over the weekend, with a continental cold air mass forecast to arrive on Friday, meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said Wednesday.

Wu, an adjunct associate professor of atmospheric sciences at National Central University, said the cold air mass could push temperatures down to 12-13 degrees in open and coastal areas of northern Taiwan over the weekend.

The meteorologist said cold and wet weather is forecast on Friday, with the windward side of northern and eastern Taiwan likely to see sporadic showers, and rain expected to increase in central Taiwan over the weekend.

Wu added that the temperatures will rise slightly on Monday, but rain is still expected in northern areas.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, areas across the island will enjoy sunny to cloudy skies with warm and comfortable weather until Thursday and daily highs expected to push 30 degrees in central and southern Taiwan.
