Taipei, Sept. 24 (CNA) Traffic was flowing smoothly on Taiwan's freeways Monday morning but was expected to become congested on some highways by afternoon as the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday wound down, the Freeway Bureau said.

Those freeway sections that are likely to have traffic jams Monday afternoon are the northbound lanes on Freeway No. 1 near Yunlin, Taichung and Hsinchu; Freeway No. 3 near Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Nantou and Taichung; Freeway No. 5 near Yilan; and Freeway No. 6 near Taichung, the bureau said.

However, traffic control measures will be in place, such as a 20 percent toll discount for motorists on Freeway No. 3 between the Hsinchu and Yanchao interchanges, the bureau said.

In addition, only vehicles with three or more occupants will be allowed on Freeway No. 5 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the northbound ramps in Su'ao, Luodong, Yilan City and Toucheng in Yilan County, it said.

There will be another toll-free period between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday on Freeway No. 5, according to the bureau.

It said real-time traffic conditions can be found at http://1968.freeway.gov.tw/?lang=en or via the mobile application available at http://1968.freeway.gov.tw/app.
