Magnitude 5.2 quake jolts NE Taiwan; no injuries reported

Taipei, Feb. 26 (CNA) A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck northeastern Taiwan at 2:28 a.m. on Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at sea about 34.7 kilometers southeast of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 17.7 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The strongest tremor, which posted an intensity of 5, was felt in Yilan's Nan'ao Township, according to the center.

The earthquake could also be felt in northern and central parts of the country, with an intensity of 2 temblor felt in Taipei. No immediate casualty or damage was reported.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Hualien in eastern Taiwan on Feb. 6, leaving 17 people dead.
