DPP, ex-spokesman must compensate president for defamation: court

The Taiwan High Court ruled Tuesday that the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the party's former spokesman, Liang Wen-chieh, must jointly compensate President Ma Ying-jeou with NT$1.8 million (US$59,000) for spreading untrue statements about him before the presidential election of 2012.
