Taipei, Jan. 2 (CNA) The Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) said Wednesday that its single-day ridership reached a record high of over 200,000 on New Year's Day.
The THSR recorded 212,000 rides on Jan. 1, which was 20 percent higher than the previous record of 180,000.
The high-speed rail operator reached a milestone of 200 million passengers in mid-December after six years in operation. Currently, its average daily passenger load is around 120,000, it said.
Meanwhile, Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) said that during the four day holiday from last Friday to Monday, it recorded a daily ridership of 770,000 both on Dec. 28 and Dec. 31, which was a record.
On Dec. 29, the number was 740,000, on Dec. 30 it was 660,000, and on Jan. 1 it was 680,000, the TRA said.
