Taipei, May 16 (CNA) All 165 people aboard a plane that ran off the runway at Magong Airport in Taiwan's outlying Penghu County were safe, aviation authorities said Wednesday.
At 10:45 a.m., a Taiwan-based Far Eastern Air Transport MD-83 jet ran off the end of the runway while landing, one hour after taking off from Taipei International Airport, according to officials.
"All passengers and crew members on board are safe," Magong Airport Director Hung Chien-nanm said, explaining that people were evacuated via the jetway after the aircraft was pulled back onto the apron.
The incident caused eight flights to be delayed, Hung said, adding that regular air traffic services were resumed at 11:30 a.m. following a temporary shutdown.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the Aviation Safety Council, he said.
