Paris, April 18 (CNA) The "Seediq Bale" comic by Taiwanese comic artist Chiu Row-long will soon be released in a French edition, anofficial of the company that will publish the book said Wednesday.
Dominique Veret, editorial director of the France-based Akata publishing house, confirmed that his company will translate the graphic novel into French.
The book will be launched during the 2013 Angouleme International Comics Festival, Veret said at the Planete Manga festival featuring Asian comics that is currently taking place at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
Chiu, who is among a group of Taiwanese comic artists participating in the event, is the artistic director of the Taiwanese hit film "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale" about an uprising by theindigenous Sediq tribe against Japanese rule in 1930 known as the Wushe Incident.
Chiu's "Seediq Bale" is the first time the historical event has beendepicted in the graphic novel format.
The epic film has not only been well-received domestically but has also been reviewed favorably around the world. Many countries, including Australia, France, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the U.S. have bought distribution rights for the movie.
The movie's French distributor, however, has no plans to release it theatrically and is only planning to release it as a DVD.
With the film having rekindled interest in the Wushe Incident, the novel "Remains of Life" by Taiwanese writer Wu He, which is also centered around the incident and its main protagonist, Sediq hero Mona Rudao, has also beentranslated into French.
