Taipei, Sept. 14 (CNA) The daily maximum temperature in northern Taiwan is expected to drop by about three degrees Celsius on Friday as seasonal winds from the northeast pass over Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau said.
The winds are expected to bring showers and cooler weather to the area, with the daily highs dropping to around 31 degrees, the bureau said. In central and southern Taiwan, highs will remain at around 32 degrees, the CWB said.
The cooler weather may continue into the weekend, when northern and northeastern Taiwan are likely to see more significant rainfall from Strong Typhoon Sanba, the bureau said.
As of 2 a.m. Friday, Sanba was centered 1,080 kilometers east-southeast of Taiwan's southernmost tip of Eluanbi, moving in a north-northwesterly direction at a speed of 18 km per hour. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 191 kph, with gusts of up 234 kph, the CWB said.
The typhoon is heading toward the Ryukyu Islands and poses no immediate threat to Taiwan, the weather bureau said.
