Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) New Taipei Mayor Eric Li-luan Chu said Tuesday that a cash donation to the city government totaling NT$13.5 million (US$455,018) by a lottery winner from the city will be used to help people with physical disabilities.

The donation will be used to purchase new buses for physically challenged people and provide subsidies for them, among other social welfare initiatives, Chu said.

The donation was made by an unidentified citizen who won NT$654 million in late July, and the donations are expected to benefit over 7,000 people, the city's social welfare department said.
