Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) Smartphones have become the second most popular device for Internet home use, according to a survey published Wednesday by Global Views Monthly Magazine.

The poll of people's surfing habits showed that they use multiple devices, with 52.7 percent of Internet users browsing the web at home on their smartphones, 87 percent using desktops, 52 percent using laptops, and 24.2 percent using tablet PCs.

The survey also found that 80 percent of people search for online information or browse the web at home.

Over 24 percent participate in social networking and 19.4 percent play online video games, according to the poll.

Wang Shu-chen, from the magazine's polling center, said it will be interesting to see whether smartphones will replace traditional fixed line broadband equipment as a wider range of Internet-ready mobile devices become available.

The survey was conducted Aug. 11-14 among 1,041 respondents over the age of 18. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
