Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) Over 480,000 Taiwanese have shed a total of 470 tons of fat in a nationwide weight-loss promotion campaign so far this year, the Department of Health (DOH) said Thursday as it encouraged more people to join the program.
The campaign, now in its second year, is expected to attract 600,000 participants and result in a total weight loss of 600 tons by the end of the year, said Chiou Shu-ti, director-general of the DOH's Bureau of Health Promotion.
Among the 22 cities and counties in Taiwan, the biggest weight loss was recorded in Hualien County, Lienchiang County, Yilan County, Keelung City and Taoyuan City, in that order, Chou said. Taipei was in 11th place and New Taipei City 19th, she said.
Weight loss should not be just a health slogan, she said. Everyone should be motivated to take the action by setting goals and checking their weight every day, she added.
