Earthquake jolts southern Taiwan

Taipei, Aug. 4 (CNA) An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck southern Taiwan at 6:43 a.m. Saturday, but no casualties were immediately reported.

The earthquake's epicenter was located 34.3 kilometers east of Pingtung County Hall at a depth of 21.7 km, the Central Weather Bureau said.

The strongest tremor, with an intensity of 3, was felt in Sandimen Township in Pingtung County.
