Taipei, Aug. 4 (CNA) A campaign to raise awareness of cancer and hepatitis will be held this Sunday ahead of August 8 Father's Day to remind families of the importance of preventive health care, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital said.
Fathers will be given free screening and health checks, while cancer survivors and those who have successfully quit smoking will share their personal stories, said Hsieh Shu-hui, the hospital's public relations director.
"This is the second year we are holding the event and we are expecting about 500 participants," Hsieh told CNA.
Parents are also welcome to bring their children to attend a morning of activities that will include performances and educational sessions at the hospital in New Taipei City, she said.
Hsieh, however, said the free tests for cervical cancer, oral cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer will be available only to New Taipei City residents, as government regulations specify.
"There are certain conditions one must meet to be eligible for free (cancer) screenings," she said, adding that detailed information is available on the hospital's website.
There are no special restrictions regarding hepatitis B and C screening, except that the patient must be 30 years old or above. People interested in having free tests on the day of the campaign should register ahead of time because there is limited availability, she said.
