Taipei, June 14 (CNA) More than 4,000 dentists from home and abroad will share their clinical experience in cosmetic and implant dentistry at an international conference this week, the Association for Dental Science of the Republic of China said Thursday.
The conference, the largest dentistry gathering held in Taiwan in more than a decade, will facilitate exchanges between dentists in Taiwan, in parts of Europe, America and the Asia-Pacific region, said Tseng Ying-kuei, an association official.
"Taiwan's efforts and achievements in improving dentistry skills, equipment and education will be highlighted," he said at a press conference.
As a practicing dentist, Tseng said, he will present a paper on how to correct severe cases of malocclusion without using temporary anchorage device. A more painless means will be introduced, he added.
About 60 percent of Taiwanese have different degrees of malocclusion, meaning misalignment of teeth or problems in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together.
The condition affects not only people's appearance and self-esteem but also their ability to enunciate words, he said.
Fuh Lih-jyh, another participating dentist, said that the conference will offer a valuable opportunity for young dentists to "see the world" without traveling abroad.
The conference, themed Evolution and Harmony for Modern Dentistry, will be held June 14-18 in Taipei.
