Taipei, May 14 (CNA) A rare golden grouper was bred on a fish farm in Pingtung County, and a Hong Kong buyer has offered NT$100,000 (US$3,388) to purchase the rare fish, a marine biology researcher said Monday.

Pearl grouper are usually known for their dark gray color, but the golden pearl grouper bred on the farm is one of a kind, said Ho Yuan-hsing, a marine biology researcher at the Fisheries Research Institute in Taitung County.

The owner of the fish, surnamed Ho, turned down the offer of the Hong Kong buyer, who was interested in purchasing the fish for research.

Instead of selling it, Ho called the researcher and offered to have the fish displayed at the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium in Taitung.

The fish, which measures 30 centimeters long, is a crossbreed between a tiger grouper and a king grouper, according to its owner.
