Tokyo, April 20 (CNA) Taiwanese Go player Cho U was awarded with the title of Kisei for the third consecutive year and received prize money of 45 million Japanese yen (US$552,020) at a ceremony in Tokyo, Japan Friday.
Winning the Kisei is the highest honor for a professional player, the 32-year-old Cho said, adding that he will shoulder the responsibility to promote the game in Japan.
Cho, who is based in Japan, defeated Japan's Shinji Takao in March to defend the Kisei title he has held since 2010.
Kazuo Nakagawa, chairman of a Go institute, encouraged Cho to win the Kisei title for five consecutive years and promote the game in the international arena.
Taiwan's representative to Japan, John Feng, who has taken part in a total of 12 title conferring ceremonies for Cho since being posted to Japan more than 3 years ago, also extended his congratulations to Cho that day.
