Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) Over 200 kite experts from home and abroad are set to participate in an upcoming arts festival that feature kites, dances and other fun-filled activities, organizers said Thursday.
The first New Taipei City North Coast Arts Festival will be held on two consecutive weekends starting Sept. 24 in Shihmen and Sanjhih townships, with the attendance of 40 teams from 15 countries and territories to showcase kite crafts and perform skills, according to the city government.
"The festival is an expansion of the Shihmen kite festival we have organized for 11 years," said Wu Chia-chi, acting head of the Cultural Development Division under the city's Cultural Affairs Department.
"Shihmen is an ideal location for kite flying in autumn," she added.
For the opening of the four-day event, kite professionals from South Korea and China will team up with a local group to perform a stunt kite show.
On the same day, the organizers will also give away 1,000 kites for the public to join in on the aerial acrobatics, Wu said.
Meanwhile, 12 dance groups will present performances ranging from Flamenco, folk dance, jazz, and Latin Samba to tap dance.
On the sidelines of the festival, there will be a market displaying creative kite crafts and sessions led by experts to teach the public to make their own kites, Wu said.
Participating teams at the festival include those from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, and the United States.
