Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) lifted the sea warning for Typhoon Muifa Saturday as the storm shifted direction northward.

According to the Central Emergency Operation Center at noon, Muifa did not cause any casualties in Taiwan.

As of 11 a.m., the typhoon was centered 520 kilometers northeast of Taipei, moving in a north-northwesterly direction at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour, the bureau said.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 137 kph, with gusts of up to 173 kph.

As Muifa gradually loses strength and deviates from its previous northwestward trajectory, the bureau said chances for rain showers in northern Taiwan have declined.

Still, the bureau warned people in the southern region to keep alert to heavy rain from later in the day until Aug. 8 as moisture southwest of the island moves in.
