Teens come of age on bikes

2011/06/23 20:55

Taipei, June 23 (CNA) More than 2,000 students took part in a June 8 cycle tour sponsored by the Changhua county government to celebrate their coming of age and the start of a new stage in their lives.

Changhua Magistrate Cho Po-yuan presided over the opening of the 10-km event and encouraged the young men and women to bravely take up the challenges ahead.

Apart from hailing cycling as healthy exercise, Cho said it is also an environmentally friendly and energy-saving activity that has become a fad around the world.

Changhua in central Taiwan is a major manufacturing hub for bike components and produces more than 60 percent of the parts used in Taiwan.
