Taipei, Feb. 24 (CNA) The Nangang eastern extension of Taipei'sMass Rapid Transit (MRT) system will start services at 2 p.m. Feb.27, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin said Thursday during a visit toSingapore.
Providing transfer services between the Nangang Line and theWenhu Line via the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station, theapproximately 1-km extension will connect downtown Taipei andsuburban Nangang.
At present, passengers traveling between the two districts haveto use a combination of MRT and shuttle bus to make the journey.
Hau said that even though the extension line is not long, itplays an essential role in connecting Nangang and Wenhu lines andwill benefit residents not only in the two districts but also in theXizhi and Keelung areas.
During its trial run, the new line will offer discounts, Hausaid.
According to the Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS), itwill take about 20 minutes to travel between the Taipei Main Stationand the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station using the newextension.
