Premier praises new Taipei County riverside park

Taipei, Nov. 13 (CNA) Premier Wu Den-yih praised a new riversidepark in Yingge Township in northern Taiwan's Taipei County as a goodplace for photography while presiding Saturday over an openingceremony for the park.

Wu toured the new facility, named the Sanying Waterfront park,which is part of a 32-hectare land reclamation project along thebanks of the township's Tahan River.

A big outdoor stage over the river -- the largest of its kind innorthern Taiwan -- caught Wu's eye and he also praised themultifunction nature of the stage, which can also be used as a floodprotection device.



According to the county government, the park is built on the siteof a former dump for waste from the ceramic industry, the localspecialty.

The local government started in 2006 to develop the reclaimedriverside land into a green area for sports and leisure activities.said Taipei Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei.

He noted that the government has also mapped out plans to buildan exhibition center and an art gallery on the reclaimed land, aswell as a gondola system over the river that will connect Yingge andits neighboring township of Sansia.

The inauguration celebration also included an all-day concertfeaturing a variety of local entertainers.
