Denver, July 19 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will meet with Colorado Governor Jared Polis and visit the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), during her two-night visit to Denver after completing her tour of Taiwan's four Caribbean allies.

Tsai, who will arrive in Denver at around 5 p.m. Friday local time after leaving St. Lucia, the last of the Caribbean allies she visited, will meet with Polis and U.S. Senator Cory Gardner during her stay, Presidential Office spokesman Alex Huang (黃重諺) said Friday.

On Saturday morning, the president will visit the NCAR, which was responsible for developing FormoSat-7, the second satellite constellation jointly built by Taiwan and the U.S. after FormoSat-3, Huang said.

FormosSat-7 was just sent into orbit from the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 24 to replace FormoSat-3 to collect meteorological, ionospheric and climate data.

According to Huang, the NCAR, founded in the 1960s and now one of the most important atmospheric research organizations in the world, started to work with Taiwan on meteorological research in the 1980s, and the partnership has made an important contribution to weather forecasting and meteorological data analysis.

At the NCAR, Tsai will be met by center director Everette Joseph and other senior scientists, Huang said.

She will then have lunch with Gardner and visit the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a U.S. federal laboratory dedicated to renewable energy development, in the afternoon.

Tsai left Taiwan on July 11 for the 12-day trip that has taken her to New York, Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia.

She will leave Denver to return to Taiwan on July 22.
