"The United States respects and admires Taiwan's democracy, and in so doing, will not get involved in Taiwan's elections," Jeffrey Horwitz, senior consultant at the U.S. State Department's Office of Taiwan Coordination, said Saturday at an event organized by the Taiwanese Association of America -- Greater Washington Chapter (華府台灣同鄉會).
