Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) Christopher Marut, the newly appointed U.S. envoy to Taiwan, and his wife Loretta Marut arrived in Taipei Thursday night to assume his new office.
In a brief statement released at the Taoyuan International Airport, Marut said he had lived in Taiwan with his wife before and has developed a strong affinity to this island since then.
The director of Taipei Office of American Institute in Taiwan said he looks forward to working together with his colleague in Taipei to improve U.S. ties with Taiwan.
His wife Loretta was an ethnic Chinese from Hong Kong. She said she is glad to visit the island after a hiatus of 24 years.
Marut and his wife have two grown children, both of whom were born in Taiwan.
He will fill in the post left by William Stan who retired in July.
