Taipei, June 21 (CNA) The period of visa-free treatment for Taiwanese passport holders visiting South Korea will be extended from 30 to 90 days from July 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.
The new measure is expected to increase interaction between the two countries, said Steve Hsia, deputy director-general of the ministry's Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, during a routine press conference.
In 2003, Taiwan reached a visa waiver agreement with South Korea, a privilege that has since allowed passport holders from both sides to travel on visa-free stays of up to 30 days.
There were 660,000 bilateral visits in 2011, according to a statement released by the ministry.
