Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) A strong cold air mass will begin to affect Taiwan from Sunday evening through Wednesday, with the temperature expected to dip to a low of 10 degrees Celsius, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The strong cold air mass will gradually move south late Sunday, with lows forecast to fall to 16 degrees in northern Taiwan and 18-20 degrees in the rest of the country, coupled with strong winds, the bureau said.

Moisture is likely to increase Monday and Tuesday, with intermittent rain forecast for all parts of the country and snow above elevations of more than 3,000 meters, the bureau said.

On Wednesday, the mercury in areas north of Tainan and in northeastern Taiwan is expected to slide to 10 degrees in the early morning, and 13-15 degrees in the Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Hualien and Taitung areas, due to a radiative cooling effect, it explained.

The strong cold air mass will begin to weaken from Thursday and Friday, with daytime temperatures across the country likely to rebound, the CWB said, although it warned against low temperatures of 13-14 degrees at night.
