Taipei, Dec. 1 (CNA) Tigerair Taiwan launched direct flights to Cebu, its first route to the Philippines, on Saturday to tap into the growing travel demand between the two countries.

An outbound flight will depart from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 10:35 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with return flights departing from the newly renovated Mactan-Cebu Airport at 2:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The airline said the new service also marks its ambition to further expand its core market from Northeast Asia, particularly Japan, to Southeast Asia.

Until Saturday, Bangkok was the only Southeast Asian destination served by the low-cost carrier.

With the addition of service to Cebu, Tigerair Taiwan now flies 27 routes between Taiwan and destinations in the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Macau and Thailand, the airline said.
