Magnitude 5.2 quake hits northeastern Taiwan

Taipei, June 16 (CNA) A magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan at 4:53 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at sea about 9.2 kilometers east of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 62.3 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The strongest tremor, which posted an intensity of 4, was felt in Yilan's Niudou village, according to the center.

The earthquake could be felt in most parts of northern and central Taiwan, with an intensity of 3 temblor felt in some areas in Yilan, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hualien and Taichung.

No immediate casualty or damage was reported.
