Taipei, June 10 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) is forecasting heavy rain across Taiwan starting on Wednesday, alerting people in central and southern Taiwan to beware of flooding -- a huge turn from the recent dry weather.

Most of Taiwan recorded minimal rainfall during the Plum Rain season in May. But converging weather fronts, impacted by southwest monsoon, will likely bring heavy or torrential rain, according to Lin Ting-yi (林定宜), a CWB forecaster.

Lin said the unstable weather with scattered rainstorms or thunderstorms may last until Wednesday of next week.

Affected by a low depression in the Pacific Ocean, unstable weather has been forecast across Taiwan on Sunday, and the public must stay alert for heavy rainfall in the days ahead, the CWB said earlier in the day.

As a front system from the north is expected to converge with a cloud system introduced by the low depression, chances of rain are high throughout Taiwan from Sunday to Monday morning, the bureau said.

From Wednesday to Saturday, moisture across the island will increase due to an approaching stationary front from the south, which will bring heavy rain in some parts of the country, according to the bureau.
