Costco Taiwan to open early for Black Friday sale

Taipei, Nov. 23 (CNA) Costco Taiwan will open an hour earlier on Nov. 24 and the following two days for its first Black Friday sale, which will feature low prices at its 13 stores in the country.

Black Friday, so named in the United States to mark the start of the Christmas shopping season, is usually the day after the Thanksgiving holiday and is characterized by deep discounts at retail stores that open earlier than usual.

For the first time, Costco's 13 stores around Taiwan will offer Black Friday sales, opening an hour earlier at 9 a.m. this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to Costco Taiwan Vice President Wang Yu-mei (王友玫).

The vice president said Costco has deliberately been close-lipped about its discounts so as to lure customers to its physical stores to join the shopping frenzy that characterizes Black Friday in the U.S.

The discounts will be offered only on products sold at Costco's physical stores and shoppers will have no idea what items will be on sale until they enter the stores, Wang said.

Costco Taiwan's Black Friday sale runs from Nov. 24-26.
