Taipei, Oct. 18 (CNA) A Taiwanese national and two Indonesians have been arrested for illegally dumping the body of a deceased workmate last month in Shueishang Township, Chiayi County, police said Wednesday.

Shen Chin-hui (沈進輝), deputy head of the investigation unit of the Shueishang Precinct, said an investigation was conducted after a dead body with its hands and legs tied together was found in a banana plantation Sept. 28.

The body was clad only in a pair of underpants without any identification and the police were unable to make a DNA match.

The police viewed footage from over 500 surveillance cameras and investigated over 30,000 vehicles before finding a van that was parked at the scene of the crime.

From the van, the police were able to track down the suspects -- a Taiwanese man surnamed Chen (陳) and two Indonesian migrant workers who were working illegally, said Shen.

The deceased was named as Samsul Karimullah, 32, an Indonesian who entered Taiwan Sept. 19 on a tourist visa, said Chen Chun-ting (陳俊廷), head of the investigation unit of Shueishang Precinct.

Karimullah found work in Chiayi through introductions by extended family members who were already working in Taiwan. However he fell sick on his first day at work Sept. 23, said Chen.

Karimullah was working on a construction site and his workmates thought he was suffering from heat stroke. However, he died later that day, said Chen.

The three suspects then drove the body to the banana plantation and dumped it in the early hours of Sept. 24, he added.

The actual cause of death is being investigated by the Institute of Forensic Medicine under the Ministry of Justice, after which the body will be repatriated back to his home country, said Shen.
