Taipei, Oct. 14 (CNA) Taiwan-based Innolux Corp. (群創) was the third biggest supplier of large-sized display screens in the world in the second quarter of the year, according to U.S.-based market information advisory firm International Data Corp. (IDC).

In a research report earlier in the week, IDC said Innolux held a 16.8 percent share of the global market for large-sized displays in the April-June period, which was the third biggest share and an increase from 16.1 percent in the same period of last year.

Second-quarter global shipments of large-sized screens totaled 200 million units, up 5.9 percent from a year earlier as major suppliers increased output, with Innolux accounting for 33.6 million units, the IDC data showed.

IDC said Innolux's second-quarter shipments were a 13.4 percent increase from a year earlier, as the company's production recovered after disruptions due to a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in southern Taiwan in February 2016.

AU Optronics Corp. (AUO, 友達), another Taiwanese flat panel company, was in fourth place in the global rankings, with a 13.8 percent market share, down from 15.3 percent a year earlier.

AUO's shipments fell 2.2 percent to 27.6 million units in the second quarter, IDC said.

Meanwhile, BOE Technology Group (京東方) of China topped the rankings with a 21.2 percent global market share in the second quarter on the back of its increased supply of screens for portable computers, which helped boost its shipments 16.6 percent year-on-year, IDC said.

LG Display Co. of South Korea was in second place with a global market share of 17.2 percent although its shipments were 9.3 percent lower than a year earlier, IDC said.

IDC forecast that 2017 global shipments of large-sized screens will show a 1.7 percent annual decline to 776 million units, as the current supply glut is expected to continue to the end of the year.
