Taipei, Sept. 26 (CNA) The strong heat that has engulfed Taiwan in recent days should give way to cooler temperatures starting Thursday, when the first autumn weather front is forecast to reach the island, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Tuesday.

CWB forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) said the arrival of the weather front along with northeasterly winds are expected to bring down daytime highs around Taiwan, including by 4-5 degrees Celsius to about 30-32 degrees in northern Taiwan from Thursday to Saturday.

The coming weather front is also expected to bring sporadic showers in northern and northeastern parts of the island during the three-day period, Chang said.

Stable weather and sunny skies are expected to return after the weather front moves away from Taiwan on Saturday, with daytime highs likely to hit 35-36 degrees, but western Taiwan could still see occasional thundershowers in the afternoons, Chang said.
