Taipei, Sept. 12 (CNA) A land warning for Typhoon Talim is expected to be issued at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday if its path remains unchanged, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, Talim was located 680 kilometers east-southeast of Taipei, moving in a west-northwesterly direction toward Taiwan at 16-21 kilometers per hour, the bureau said.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 137 kph, with gusts of 173 kph, the CWB said.

The bureau said the typhoon is aiming directly at Taipei, New Taipei and Keelung and will bring the strongest wind and rain to Taiwan between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.

The peripheral of Talim is expected to bring gusts to northern Taiwan and coastal areas of eastern Taiwan, as well as the outlying islands of Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu, beginning late Tuesday, the CWB warned.

It also cautioned residents in coastal regions to beware of ocean surges.
