Talim set to impact all Taiwan Thursday

Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) Tropical Storm Talim is intensifying in strength as it moves toward Taiwan and will potentially have nationwide impact on Thursday, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Monday.

Currently, Talim is located at about 1,870 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost tip and is moving in a west-northwestly direction toward Taiwan at around 30 kilometer per hour, the bureau said.

The CWB said a sea warning could be issued for Talim early on Tuesday and a land warning on Tuesday night or early Wednesday, depending how fast the storm moves.

The bureau said that since Talim is gathering strength and is expected to envelop all Taiwan, residents should take precautions in a bid to reduce the danger posed by the storm.

Li Meng-hsuan (李孟軒), a forecaster at the CWB, said that due to the tropical storms' peripheral cloud system, Taiwan can expect to see rain from Wednesday afternoon, followed by heavy rain and strong winds all day Thursday.

The radius of the storm expanded from 100 kilometers on Sunday night to 150 kilometers Monday morning and is forecast to grow further, according to the CWB. The bureau said that Talim could still develop into a strong typhoon.
