Taipei, June 16 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau on Friday issued a heavy rain warning for most parts of Taiwan, cautioning against torrential rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds as a plum rain front intensifies.

Except for Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan and the offshore Lienchiang County (the Matsu Islands), all areas are included in the warning, forecasters said.

Central and northern Taiwan, as well as mountainous areas in southern Taiwan, are likely to see the worst weather conditions, with accumulated rainfall of more than 200 millimeters within 24 hours, or more than 100 millimeters over three hours, according to the warning.

Residents in mountainous areas should remain vigilant against mudslides, falling rocks and flooding, the bureau advised.
