2015/12/26 17:07:35

Taipei, Dec. 26 (CNA) A 262-meter-long suspension bridge in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County was inaugurated Saturday, attracting a large crowd.

Hundreds of people started queuing up at 8 a.m., six hours before the bridge was opened for a free walk.

President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), who was also invited to the project's launch, said after walking the bridge twice that the construction is firm.

The bridge, which links Sandimen and Majia townships, will start a trial run until the end of February, opening 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Future admission fees for using the bridge, which is not a principal road connecting the two townships as there is a cement bridge nearby, remains under discussion.
