Moderate earthquake jolts southern Taiwan

Taipei, June 9 (CNA) An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 shook southern Taiwan at 12:41 p.m. Saturday, but no casualties were immediately reported.

The earthquake's epicenter was located 27.6 kilometers north of Pingtung County at a depth of 23 km, the Central Weather Bureau said.

The strongest tremor, which posted an intensity of 4, was felt in Pingtung's Sandimen Township.

On June 6, four earthquakes shook Taitung County on Taiwan's southeastern coast between 9:08 a.m. and 10:24 a.m., with the strongest one measuring 5.9.
