Taipei, Aug. 16 (CNA) An absurdist drama created by renowned Japanese director Yudai Kamisato will be staged in Taiwan as part of the upcoming Taipei Arts Festival, the director said Thursday.

Produced by Okazaki Art Theater, "Hemispherical Red and Black" is based on observations of society's attempts to conceal helplessness and contradiction in the aftermath of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Yudai Kamisato said.

After the earthquake, he decided to create a work that focuses on the phenomenon of "lost Japan," Kamisato said, adding that this program is his first work since the disaster.

The drama presents Japanese people as being people who do not care about others and do not examine themselves, but who still think Japan is superior, he said.

The program will be staged at Taipei's Shuiyuan Theater on Aug. 17-19 as part of the festival, which will run through Sept. 9.
