Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) Students from 16 universities from Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Russia and Australia will face off in an upcoming debating competition in Hsinchu County, the organizer said Thursday.
The theme of the five-day debate will be Taiwan's public policies, such as nuclear power legislation, said the Department of Communication and Technology of Hsinchu-based National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), the organizer of the contest.
Taiwan's National Chengchi University and Soochow University will face University of Malaya and China-based Soochow University, respectively, in the preliminary round of the debate, which runs Aug. 12-16 at NCTU's College of Hakka Studies.
Among the participating foreign universities are Russia's Moscow State University, University of Sydney and University of Melbourne from Australia, as well as National University of Singapore.
In addition, Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Macao University of Science and Technology, University of Macau, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Multimedia University of Malaysia, National University of Malaysia and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences will attend the contest.
